Mohair is another natural product shorn from angora goats. There are various breeds of goats each for a specific purpose; our mohair is kid mohair from young goats, which gives a very soft and lustrous fibre. Cascade House mohair is a silky 3 ply thread constructed using selected long staple fibres that gives it the strength for hand embroidery and is a delight to work with. Our mohair has 120 real living colours, 15 being hand painted as the Crewel and Tapestry Wools, allowing the embroiderer to put any group of colours together so that they blend and match. Look for the dots on the colour chart. This allows the embroiderer a great choice and freedom of expression in their work, that is not always possible with other yarns. Why don't you try it in your next embroidery.
Candlewicking is a very old art, some say it is the original embroidery and as the name suggests began with embroiderers using the cotton wicks destined for candles to stitch together what ever was available to make quilts for warmth. Later knots were introduced to prevent the threads pulling through the coarsely woven materials of the time. Today we have the benefit of modern manufacturing, which enables us to have the quality of materials we choose, but I can always remember my grandmother telling me "you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear." Cascade House brings to you the finest quality Candlewicking Cotton, manufactured from Australian long staple cotton grown in western New South Wales. It is exclusively spun to the traditional weight of candlewicks to give you a soft yet strong yarn to ensure your knots are bold. Robyn has chosen 12 fantastic colours including traditional cream and white so that everyone will be able to find a colour suitable for their needs.
Cascade House Blending Filament is unique, it is a very fine metallic strip wrapped with a core thread of Silk not rayon. This ensures the Blending Filament to be softer and more user friendly. The metallic is very strong and can be stranded from the silk core and stitched by itself. To do this it is necessary to work with a short thread as the more you draw your needle through the fabric the more pressure it places on the metallic strip. Cascade House Blending Filament comes in 26 fantastic colours. Experiment and see how easy it is to use. Blending Filament is often used for highlighting work eg. Butterfly Wings, Feathers of a cap etc. It can also be used in stump work, try Blending Filament in a Black work project.
Similar to the Blending Filament, Luminere is a combination of
Metallic strip and the Silk core which again makes it unique, strong yet
soft to work with. Compare it with any other on the market. Cascade House
luminere comes in the same 26 colours as the Blending Filament. All Cascade House Metallics are completely washable and ironable, in fact it is safe in boiling water. It holds its shape and colour.
